Change of Name

If you are an adult…

If you wish to legally change your name you can do so with a change of name deed. It is possible to change your forenames, surname or both. You can also add or remove a name. Our family team can draft a change of name deed which will meet your specific requirements, and can provide you with the certified copies you will need to send to the various agencies to change your name on any official documents such as passports or driving licences.

We charge a fixed fee of £100.00 plus VAT.

If you would like us to prepare a change of name deed for you please contact us to make an appointment.

If you wish to change the name of a child…

A child’s name can also be changed by way of a change of name deed, provided that everyone with parental responsibility consents. We will require written confirmation from everyone with parental responsibility that they consent to the change of name before we can draft the deed.

If you are the only person with parental responsibility for the child, although you can legally change the child’s name, you should be aware that the other parent may apply to the court for a specific issue order or prohibited steps order to overturn or prevent the change of name.

If you would like any further information regarding the above or think you would like to proceed with a change of name, please contact us to make an appointment.
